15,000 years of dog domestication have created incredible breeds and have made our canine companion the ideal animal to herd, defend, keep company and, in more recent times, guide the blind, sniff for bombs and even predict seizures in humans.

Evolutionarily speaking, however, dogs are today basically identical to their wild cousins: only 1% of a domesticated dog’s DNA is different from the wild, undomesticated breed. This minuscule variation is certainly not enough to change a dog’s digestive system. For this reason, a dog is still “wired” to absorb the type of foods it would find in nature. Its system absorbs and reacts best to those nutrients found in raw flesh, bones, and even in the undigested stomach contents of its prey.
